These are some of the earlier designs for the character.
I wanted to make a character with a really simple design and also to keep it gender neutral. The reason for this was because I thought the phobia the animation is based on can happen to anyone, male or female, young or old.
Some of the designs make the character look almost alien. This could be looked at in a literal sense, since the character practically alienates themselves from the people they're trying to impress.
I think that the use of sketchy rather than clean lines works well. It makes the character look almost distorted and the mess of the lines could also represent the mess of the characters mind.
Anyone who looks through my sketchbook and see the following pages without knowing what the project is about, they may think I'm suicidal.
They were really just little notes on words that could be used in the animation, either as text that projects from the characters mind or as words for the script. Or both. I tried to think of words that would really get the character down and would quickly pull them into their depression.
I think I'd be fairly depressed having these words flying around my head on a regular basis.
